SESSION ONE—Coordinating and Connecting RTI Efforts

Effective implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) has the potential to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavioral problems.  RTI integrates assessment, instruction and intervention in a multi-level support system.  When it is strong and sustaining, it informs instructional decisions in general education and special education. 

This workshop will review the essential components of RTI and examine the connection between a strong RTI district framework and special education decision-making.  In addition, frequently asked question about RTI will be addressed.

This session will review the passing of rights at age 18 from parents to students who become adults.  Exploration and discussion of the alternative to and legal effects of guardianship in Rhode Island.

SESSION FOUR –Understanding Student Mental Health Issues in Schools
Presented by: Pamela Messore, LICSW, LCDP

This session will focus on student mental health issues as they present within a school setting. Discussion of diagnosis, behavior and its relation to disability condition (manifestation), school based management of student medication, student behavior and family issues.
